The Driver is a thrilling web series from the Creators Media production house that premiered in 2017. The series is comprised of eight episodes, and each episode has a runtime of approximately ten minutes, making it an ideal series for binge-watching. The series' story centers around Vince, a private chauffeur who shuts off his GPS and decides to take a new client, Daisy, off the grid for a night. From this point on, the story unfolds as an intense chase filled with suspense, drama, and action as Vince finds himself up against corrupt cops, drug dealers, and a host of other drivers out to get him.
The show's pace is brisk, and the action sequences are well choreographed, keeping you on the edge of your seat right from the first episode. The storyline grabs the viewer's attention, drawing them into Vince's world, and keeps them invested, rooting for him in every turn.
The lead character Vince, played by Mark Grossman, is a complex character, whose backstory is slowly revealed as the story progresses. He is a former Frank Sinatra impersonator turned limo driver, who has a dark past that he is trying to leave behind. Vince's character development is one of the main highlights of the show, as we gradually come to understand the choices he makes and the reasons behind them.
Daisy, played by Melissa Fumero, is Vince's client and becomes an unwitting pawn in his escapades. Her story arc takes on a substantial role in the series as a voice of conscience that guides Vince through many of the show's darker moments, giving him a sense of purpose and propelling the story forward.
The supporting cast includes a diverse range of characters, each with their motivations and goals. There is a touch of wit and humor to each character's nuances, which makes the show all the more entertaining to watch. For instance, the corrupt cops, played by James Kyson and Penn Badgley, constantly bicker about which music to play in their patrol car, bringing a light-hearted tone to otherwise tense scenes.
The show's filming locations are an integral part of the storyline that takes place in the night-time Los Angeles scenery. From the cityscape to the nightclubs, the show's visuals are magnificent and provide a sense of authenticity to the characters.
Furthermore, the series features an energetic soundtrack, including some classic Sinatra tunes, that adds another layer of excitement and adds to the series's overall ambiance.
The Driver is an excellent combination of high-speed action, social commentary, and character development. The show offers a fresh take on the chase genre and is a welcome addition to the streaming world. This is a show that will keep you entertained from start to finish, and should be added to your watchlist right away.
