Queer Icon is a new show from TURNT Network that celebrates and profiles the most influential and inspiring LGBTQ+ figures in history. The show explores the lives, work, activism, and impact of these icons, through a blend of interviews, archive footage, and immersive storytelling.

Each episode of Queer Icon focuses on a specific LGBTQ+ hero or heroine, whose achievements and legacy continue to reverberate in the world today. From Oscar Wilde and Marsha P. Johnson to Armistead Maupin and Harvey Milk, the show spans the breadth and depth of the queer community's rich cultural, political, and social history.

Through interviews with experts, friends, admirers, and family members, Queer Icon provides an intimate and insightful portrait of each icon, going beyond the surface facts to reveal their humanity, struggles, triumphs, and impact. Whether it's exploring the transformative influence of queer literature, the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights, the role of queer art in shaping culture, or the power of queer representation in media, the show is a celebration of diversity, creativity, and resilience.

Alongside the interviews, Queer Icon also features archival footage, photos, and artwork, bringing the stories and personalities of these icons to life in vivid detail. From rare interviews and performances to intimate moments and public speeches, the archival material gives viewers a unique access to the world of each icon and the context in which they achieved their fame and influence.

Aside from the historical figures, Queer Icon also showcases newer figures in the LGBTQ+ community who are making waves in modern times. These include people like Dan Levy, the creator, star and showrunner of Schitt's Creek, an icon in the entertainment industry; Chelsea Manning, transgender rights activist and former US army private; Billy Porter, the iconic actor and musician who made history as the first openly gay Black man to win a lead acting Emmy, to name just a few. These newer queer icons continue to make their marks in their respective fields and society at large.

The show's mix of interviews, archive footage, and immersive storytelling gives viewers an engaging and informative journey into the world of each queer icon, providing an intimate and insightful look into the lives and legacies of these trailblazers. By humanizing each of these icons, the show highlights the importance of celebrating, honoring, and learning from LGBTQ+ history, as well as the ongoing struggles and triumphs of the community.

Another important aspect of Queer Icon is its ability to educate and inspire, encouraging viewers to learn more about LGBTQ+ history, activism and representation, and to use their voices and influence to further these vital causes. The idea is to create more representation for LGBTQ+ people in mainstream media, and how it helps in furthering a world where one's sexuality or gender identity does not limit the opportunities they can have.

Queer Icon is an important addition to LGBTQ+ media, bringing to light the accomplishments and struggles of those who have made leaps and bounds before, for those who have a great future to look forward to. It celebrates the resilience and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community and provides a platform for aspiring queer icons to be heard and appreciated by a larger audience. The show is a call to action -- a testament to the power of the LGBTQ+ community to overcome adversity, inspire positive change, and leave a lasting impact on society.

Queer Icon is a series that ran for 1 seasons (10 episodes) between April 16, 2019 and on TURNT Network
