Seventeen years ago Pat Bennett's husband had abandoned her and their three daughters. Tommy Griffin was a marine who had met Pat at a dance back in the late 1950s. Everything was wonderful between them until one day, Tommy lost his feelings of intimacy for his family and told Pat it was her idea to have children. While Pat and her friend were out getting ice-cream with their children, a young female carhop recognized the car and asked about Tommy. Pat threw ice-cream in her face and drove off. When confronted, Tommy denied having anything to do with the carhop.
