The Cable News Network, or CNN, is a twenty-four hour cable and satellite news channel. It was the first all-news television channel in the United States, as well as the first channel to provide twenty-four news coverage. It was founded in 1980 by Ted Turner, and is currently owned by Turner Broadcasting System, which is a division of Time Warner.
CNN's programming consists of news during the daytime, with such shows as Early Start, New Day, and CNN Newsroom. During prime time viewing hours, there are more in-depth analysis and interview shows with shows like The Lead, CNN Tonight, Erin Burnett OutFront, and Anderson Cooper 360°. Since its creation in 1980, CNN has had a strong emphasis on politics. It also reports on health, education, sports, and science.
CNN's headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia. It broadcasts from studios in New York City, Washington, D. C., Los Angeles, and Atlanta. CNN has news bureaus scattered across the United States and throughout the world, including but not limited to Chicago, Denver, Miami, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Cairo, Istanbul, Berlin, London, Moscow, Nairobi, and Abu Dhabi.
CNN is one of the most popular cable/satellite channels in the United States. Eighty-six percent of the households with at least one television in the United States receive CNN. That's over a hundred million households. In addition, nearly nine hundred thousand hotel rooms in the United States receive CNN broadcasts. Its sister channel, CNN International, can be seen in over two hundred countries.
