White Water Summer is a coming-of-age adventure movie, released in 1987, directed by Jeff Bleckner, and stars Kevin Bacon, Sean Astin, and Jonathan Ward. The movie revolves around a suburban teenager named Alan (played by Jonathan Ward), who is sent by his parents to spend his summer vacation with a group of teenage boys, led by their camp counselor Vic (played by Kevin Bacon), in the Sierra Nevada mountains for a rough outdoor adventure.
Alan is a city boy who is not used to hiking, camping, or any outdoor activities. But against his will, he joins the group of boys, which includes a braggart named Mitch (played by Sean Astin), a shy, nerdy boy named George (played by K.C. Martel), a tough, athletic boy named Chris (played by Matt Adler), and a quiet, artistic boy named Steve (played by Caroline Junko King).
At first, Alan struggles to keep up with the group; he is scared of heights, afraid of water, and is out of shape. But as the trip progresses, Alan starts to adapt to the rugged environment, and his confidence grows as he learns how to make do in the wilderness. However, things take a drastic turn when Vic starts to push the boys to their limits, and the adventure becomes dangerous and life-threatening.
The group must overcome their own personal weaknesses, trust each other, and work together to survive the unforgiving wilderness, which includes dangerous white water rapids, steep cliffs, and treacherous mountain paths. They must learn to confront their fears and take responsibility for their actions while facing the harsh realities of nature.
The tense moments in this movie are captured excellently, with stunning scenery as the backdrop, and thrilling, adrenaline-filled scenes showing the boys battling tremendous challenges to come out alive. The movie's theme of self-discovery and camaraderie is well-executed, with the actors showcasing excellent performances, especially Kevin Bacon as the rough and tough but flawed camp counselor.
Overall, White Water Summer is an exciting coming-of-age film that emphasizes the triumph of self-discovery and the importance of teamwork, all set in the beautiful and unforgiving Sierra Nevada wilderness. It's a well-paced movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat and drum up memories of your best summer adventures.
