Watergate from History is a British television drama series that aired in 2018 and 2019. The show is a retelling of one of the most significant political scandals in the US history, following the events that led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. The series is a political thriller that explores the complex relationships between the key people involved in the scandal and the impact it had on the American public.

The series stars Douglas Hodge as President Richard Nixon, Will Keen as White House Counsel John Dean, and John Hopkins as special prosecutor Archibald Cox. The ensemble cast also features actors such as Juliet Aubrey, Gordon Kennedy, and Christiane Paul.

The eight-episode series chronicles the events that took place during the Watergate scandal, which began as a break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, D.C., in 1972. The series explores the intricacies of the investigation and the subsequent cover-up, which ultimately led to the downfall of the Nixon government.

Each episode focuses on a different aspect of the scandal, giving viewers a detailed understanding of the events that unfolded. The storytelling is non-linear, jumping back and forth in time, which helps create a sense of urgency and tension throughout the series. One of the most impressive aspects of the show is the excellent pacing, which keeps the audience engaged and invested in the story.

One of the standout performances comes from Douglas Hodge, who shines in his depiction of Richard Nixon. Hodge plays the 37th President of the United States with a deep sense of humanity, portraying him not as a caricature, but as a complex and flawed human being. The show does an excellent job at exploring Nixon's psyche, highlighting his insecurities, his paranoia, and his desire for power.

Will Keen also delivers a strong performance as John Dean, the White House Counsel who eventually turned against Nixon. The show does an excellent job at exploring Dean's motivations and his internal struggle as he decides whether to cooperate with the prosecution or protect his career and his loyalty to the President.

The third key performance comes from John Hopkins, who plays special prosecutor Archibald Cox. Hopkins brings a quiet intensity to his character, playing him as a resolute and principled lawyer who is determined to uncover the truth. The scenes between Hopkins and Hodge are some of the best in the series, showcasing two highly skilled actors at the top of their game.

The series is visually stunning, with excellent production design that captures the look and feel of the 1970s. The attention to detail is meticulous, with everything from the costumes to the sets and props being precisely designed to create a sense of authenticity.

Overall, Watergate from History is an outstanding retelling of one of the most significant events in US history. The series is a masterful exploration of the intricate web of lies, deceit, and political maneuvering that ultimately led to the downfall of a US President. Fans of political thrillers will find a lot to love in this series, as will anyone interested in the events that shaped modern-day America.
