Winston Elliott Scott was selected by NASA in March 1992, and reported to the Johnson Space Center in August 1992. He served as a mission specialist on STS-72 in 1996 and STS-87 in 1997, and logged a total of 24 days, 14 hours and 34 minutes in space, including three spacewalks totaling 19 hours and 26 minutes.

Sylvester McIntosh was drafted right out of high school and served with the 1st Battalion 9th Marines. On May 13, 1967, after being ambushed by the North Vietnamese Army and under heavy fire, McIntosh carried out three other wounded Marines while ignoring his own chest wound. In 2016 he received the Silver Star for his heroism.

Nicole Cannon joined the U.S. Army Reserves when she was only 17 and still in High School. She served as a Financial Management Tech and was deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan. Nicole was stationed at Joint Base Balad in Iraq and Jalalabad Airfield in Afghanistan. After leaving the Army she worked for the USO helping troops in Afghanistan with their long deployments away from home.

Peter Sichel, a German Jew, fled to France with his family in 1939 and was imprisoned as an enemy alien, eventually escaping and reaching the United States in 1941 where he joined the U.S. Army. He served with the OSS sending spies into Germany and became a senior official with the CIA in Berlin, Hong Kong and Washington D.C.

Richard Sawyer served in the U.S. Army as a dog handler and was deployed to Vietnam with his dog in 1970. "I never pulled my trigger when I was over in Vietnam," Richard said. "I always believed, 'Thou shalt not kill.' " After returning home from Vietnam and attending college the war finally caught up with him. Today Richard is retired and writing poetry to help express his PTSD.

After graduating from Harvard, Philip Keith went directly into the Navy and became an aviator. During three tours in Vietnam, Phil flew 262 combat missions and was awarded, among other decorations, the Purple Heart, Air Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and Navy Commendation Medal.

Douglas Weinert served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 2006-2014 with the 10th Mountain Division 2nd Battalion 22nd Infantry Regiment and was stationed in both Iraq and Afghanistan as well as serving with the Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery.

Dave Rogers is a Veteran who served in Bosnia, Desert Storm and at the World Trade Center with Homeland Security. Dave retired due to injuries sustained while serving with the New York State National Guard during the aftermath of 9/11 and credits much of his ongoing recovery to the VFW, his artwork and giving back to his community.

Melvin Morris became one of the first Soldiers to don the 'green beret' at the command of President John F. Kennedy at Fort Bragg, N.C., in 1961. Morris volunteered twice for deployments to Vietnam and received the Medal of Honor for his valorous actions on September 17, 1969, while commanding the Third Company, Third Battalion of the IV Mobile Strike Force near Chi Lang, Vietnam.

Armando "Chick" Galella served with the 53rd Signal Corps at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked on December 7th, 1941. Chick went on to earn the rank of Battalion Sgt. Major and served 5 years in the Pacific during WWII. Chick was awarded the Bronze Star for serving at the Battle of Okinawa.
