UnCabaret is a live comedy show hosted by Beth Lapides that has been running since the early 90s. The show features a rotating cast of comedians who take the stage to perform a mix of stand-up comedy, storytelling, and musical acts. Originally held at a small club in West Hollywood, the show has since moved to a larger venue where it has become a staple of the Los Angeles comedy scene.

One of the unique features of UnCabaret is its commitment to creating a safe and supportive space for comics to experiment with new material and try out unconventional forms of comedy. Lapides is known for her nurturing approach to working with comedians, and she often gives performers the freedom to explore more personal or political themes in their sets.

Over the years, UnCabaret has featured some of the biggest names in comedy, including Sarah Silverman, Margaret Cho, and Patton Oswalt. Additionally, the show has become known for giving a platform to LGBTQ+ comedians and comedians of color, who have historically been underrepresented in mainstream comedy.

In a review of a 2012 UnCabaret show, LA Weekly writer Keith Plocek describes the atmosphere as "intimate and laidback," with the performers working to "create a community of comedy lovers in the audience." He notes that the show's format allows for a wide range of styles and voices, from the "smart and cerebral" material of Garfunkel & Oates to the "fiery, no-holds-barred" humor of Sandra Bernhard.

Garfunkel & Oates, the comedy-folk duo consisting of Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, are known for their quirky, irreverent songs that explore topics like dating, sexuality, and modern relationships. In their UnCabaret set, they perform a mix of fan favorites and new material, weaving in stories and banter between songs.

Sandra Bernhard, a veteran of the comedy scene, brings her trademark blend of wit, politics, and pop culture commentary to the UnCabaret stage. Plocek describes her set as ranging "from riffs on women's health care to critiques of Newt Gingrich's moral character to gleeful celebrity skewerings."

Overall, UnCabaret is a show that values creativity, diversity, and community in comedy. It challenges traditional notions of what stand-up can be, and gives a platform to voices that might not otherwise be heard. As Lapides has said, "Comedy should be pushing the boundaries of what we think is okay to talk about, what is possible to cure us, make us laugh, and make us see things in a whole new way."

UnCabaret is a series that ran for 1 seasons (4 episodes) between June 3, 2012 and on UnCabaret
