Their joy is short-lived when they discover their baby suffers from omphalocele, a defect in the abdominal wall resulting in the baby's stomach, liver and other major organs developing in a membrane sack outside of its body.

Early tests show that teenage mom Keo'sha's unborn son suffers from gastroschisis, a condition where a portion of the intestine protrudes through a defect in the abdominal wall. The corrective procedure is normally routine, but doctors soon learn that Dash's exposed intestine is attached to his umbilical cord. Three surgeries and severe complications will keep Dash in the E.R. for some time.

Carlita, severely stressed by the death of her baby's father just days earlier, goes into labor a full month before her due date. Tiny Baby Emani presents breathing problems almost immediately, quickly landing her in the E.R.. Shantae is less than 30 weeks pregnant with twins when her water breaks for one of the babies. When the second water breaks, both babies and mother are at risk of dangerous infection. At 32 weeks, Shantae goes into labor, but concerns over one baby's life-threateningly low heart rate prompt an emergency c-section. Twin babies Delbert and Dakota are rushed to the E.R. immediately after delivery.
