Shooter is a political thriller television series that premiered on USA Network on November 15, 2016. The show is based on the 2007 movie of the same name, which is in turn based on the novel Point of Impact written by Stephen Hunter. The series stars Ryan Phillippe as Bob Lee Swagger, an expert marksman and former Marine who is pulled back into service when his expertise is needed to prevent an imminent threat to the United States.

The show follows Swagger as he is recruited by his former commanding officer, Isaac Johnson (Omar Epps), to help prevent the assassination of the President of the United States. Swagger is initially reluctant to become involved, but when he learns that his family is being targeted by the same individuals responsible for the assassination attempt, he decides to use his skills to take down the conspirators.

Throughout the series, Swagger is joined by various allies, including his wife Julie (Shantel VanSanten) and an FBI agent named Nadine Memphis (Cynthia Addai-Robinson). Together, they race against time to uncover the identity of the assassins and stop them before it's too late.

One of the unique aspects of Shooter is the emphasis on the expertise of Swagger as a marksman. The show's creators worked with a military expert to ensure that the portrayal of guns and gun violence was accurate and realistic. As a result, viewers are treated to intense and suspenseful action sequences that showcase Swagger's skills as an elite shooter.

Another strength of the show is the strong performances by its cast. Ryan Phillippe delivers a compelling portrayal of Swagger, and the chemistry between him and his co-stars is palpable. Omar Epps is also excellent as Isaac Johnson, delivering a nuanced performance that keeps viewers guessing about his true intentions.

The supporting cast is equally strong, with standout performances by Cynthia Addai-Robinson and Shantel VanSanten. Addai-Robinson's portrayal of FBI agent Nadine Memphis adds another layer of intrigue to the show, while VanSanten's performance as Julie Swagger brings heart and emotional depth to the series.

In addition to its strong performances, Shooter is also notable for its exploration of political conspiracy and corruption. The show's conspiracies often feel ripped from the headlines, making the events and characters feel all the more believable. However, the show also manages to maintain a sense of heightened tension and urgency that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats.

Overall, Shooter is a suspenseful and well-crafted political thriller that features strong performances and gripping action sequences. While the show was unfortunately cancelled after its third season, it still stands as a must-watch for fans of the genre.
