Sherlock Holmes: The Incident at Victoria Falls is a two-part television movie produced by ContentFilm, featuring the legendary detective, Sherlock Holmes, in a new adventure in Southern Africa. Set in 1895, the movie opens with Holmes receiving an invitation from the Duke of Holdernesse, a client he had previously helped with a case. The Duke asks Holmes to accompany him and his wife on a trip to South Africa, where they are planning to attend the wedding of their daughter. Holmes, who is bored with his routine life in London, quickly accepts the invitation and departs for Africa.
As the group arrives in Cape Town, they learn about a diamond scam masterminded by a notorious criminal, Professor James Moriarty. The Duke, who is also the governor of the Cape Colony, wants Holmes to investigate the matter and bring the criminals to justice before they can harm the reputation of the colony. Holmes, who is always up for a challenge, takes on the case and sets out to gather evidence against Moriarty.
The movie's plot thickens when the Duke's daughter, along with her fiancé, goes missing while on their way to Victoria Falls, where the wedding is to take place. Holmes and his partner, Dr. John Watson, are tasked with finding the missing couple, and they soon realize that Moriarty is involved in their disappearance. As the two detectives follow the trail, they encounter several obstacles and dangerous situations that test their intelligence, bravery, and tenacity.
One of the striking aspects of the movie is the breathtaking African landscape, which provides a stunning backdrop for the action. From the vibrant markets of Cape Town to the rugged terrain of Victoria Falls, the movie captures the beauty and diversity of the African continent. The costumes and sets are also top-notch, transporting the viewer back to the late 19th century, with its colonial charm and splendor.
The performances are another highlight of the movie. British actor Christopher Lee brings to life the arch-nemesis of Holmes, Professor Moriarty, with his signature gusto and sinister charm. Lee's portrayal of the criminal mastermind is both captivating and chilling, making him the perfect foil for Holmes' deductive powers.
The lead actors, Patrick Macnee as Holmes and Michael Hordern as Watson, also deliver solid performances, bringing their characters to life with wit and wisdom. Macnee's Holmes is sharp and cunning, with a hint of vulnerability that makes him relatable to the audience. Hordern's Watson is the perfect foil for Holmes, serving as his loyal friend and confidante, while also providing a dose of humor and humanity to the story.
Overall, Sherlock Holmes: The Incident at Victoria Falls is an engaging and entertaining addition to the Sherlock Holmes canon. It combines elements of mystery, adventure, and romance, with a dash of humor and suspense, to create a memorable viewing experience. The movie's attention to detail, stunning visuals, and strong performances make it a must-watch for any fan of the iconic detective.
