Watch Shepherd

Shepherd is a six-part British television series, that premiered in 2021. This gripping psychological thriller is directed by Lynsey Miller, and it is produced by Free@Last TV. It stars Tom Hughes as a complicated character named Shepherd, who is undergoing therapy, Kate Dickie as his therapist, and Greta Scacchi as his estranged mother, who is one of the main reasons for his current mental state.

Set in Glasgow, Scotland, Shepherd follows the life of a man who works as a forensic psychiatrist. He is highly intelligent, intuitive, and has a profound understanding of the minds of criminals. However, despite his expertise, Shepherd is struggling with his own mental health issues, and the series explores the complexities of his troubled psyche.

At the beginning of the series, Shepherd is undergoing therapy sessions with his psychiatrist, Dr. Breckinridge (Kate Dickie), as a result of an incident that happened in the past. Shepherd is haunted by his past, and is consumed by the belief that he may have contributed to a patient's wrongful conviction. The guilt of his actions has resulted in him having panic attacks and anxiety.

Simultaneously, Shepherd is trying to solve a mystery of his own. He is desperate to know the truth behind his estranged mother's disappearance 23 years ago. He believes that there is more to her disappearance than the police investigation uncovered, and inside, he can't help but feel like he may be connected to it in some way.

As the series progresses, Shepherd struggles with keeping his personal and professional life separate, and his mental health continues to deteriorate. Things take a turn for the worse when he begins to lose his grip on reality and fabricate alternative scenarios in his mind. In addition, he begins to question his own motives and beliefs, making it hard for him to trust himself and others.

The acting in Shepherd is top-notch, with the main leads putting in excellent performances. Tom Hughes is at the helm of the series, and he excellently portrays the complexities of his character. Kate Dickie delivers an outstanding performance as Dr. Breckinridge, and Greta Scacchi
