James continues his mission to Chile but breaks the rules on a shortcut to Buenos Aires. He makes an 'impossible' electric road trip across the continent and then cycles to Santiago via a 12,500 foot mountain pass over the Andes. In Chile massive protests rock the capital. James is tear gassed by riot police before he joins a reforestation project to help offset his emissions.

James speeds to Seville and boards a ship bound for South America. James trawls for microscopic plankton to support climate science and discovers fossil fuel free farming in Tenerife. An Atlantic storm throws him and calamity follows when the UN Climate Conference is moved from Chile to Madrid. James must decide whether to U-turn back to Europe or continue his mission to Santiago.

James sets sail from the south coast of England and quickly discovers fossil fuel free travel is more difficult and dangerous than he thought. He cycles through France, shepherds sheep through Paris, and dives for toxic fishing waste in the Atlantic Ocean. He loses his way in Pyrenees Mountains before making it to Madrid where an impromptu invitation leads him to an activist camp.
