Mix is a Japanese television drama series that premiered on October 12, 2019, and ran for nine episodes. The show is based on the manga series of the same name by Mitsuru Adachi, who is renowned for his sports manga stories. The series aired on Nippon TV and was also available for streaming on Hulu Japan.

The series tells the story of two identical twin brothers, Toma and Seiichiro, who live with their father, who is a former baseball player turned restaurateur. The boys are both passionate about baseball but have completely different personalities. Toma is a left-handed pitcher, quiet and reserved, while Seiichiro is an outgoing and talented catcher. The two brothers are both struggling to make their high school baseball team, the Meisei High School team.

The Meisei High School baseball team has a rich history, having won the national championship in the past, and many of its players have gone on to play professional baseball. The current coach of the team is the former captain of the championship-winning team, who is trying to rebuild the team to its former glory. The coach is also the father of Otomi, a girl who is friends with the twins and their childhood crush.

The series explores the relationships between the characters, both on and off the baseball field. It delves into the struggles and challenges that the characters face, not only in pursuing their dreams of playing baseball but also in their personal lives. The series has a strong focus on family, with the twins' father often providing sage advice to his sons, and the relationships between the characters are complex and nuanced.

Mix has a nostalgic feel to it, with many references to the past and the famous Meisei High School team from the previous series by Adachi, Touch. The series has a beautiful soundtrack, with a theme song called "Equal" by the Japanese rock band, sumika.

One of the strengths of Mix is its ability to delve into the backstories of the characters in a natural and organic way. For example, the audience is given insight into the insecurities and fears that the twins have, and why they are so passionate about baseball. We also learn about the coach's background and his drive to rekindle the success of the Meisei High School team. The series treats its characters with respect and compassion, allowing the audience to become fully invested in their lives and their stories.

Another strength of Mix is the way it portrays baseball. The sport is depicted as a complex and challenging game that requires both skill and strategy. The series does an excellent job of explaining the nuances of baseball to the audience, without becoming overly technical or alienating those who are not familiar with the sport. The baseball scenes are well-shot, with a sense of excitement and tension that keeps the audience engaged.

Mix is not without its flaws, however. Some of the characters are underdeveloped, and the focus on baseball may not appeal to all viewers. Additionally, the show did not have a second season, leaving some plotlines unresolved.

Overall, Mix is a heartwarming and engaging series that is worth watching. It tackles the themes of family, friendship, and pursuing one's dreams with grace and sincerity, and the baseball scenes are well-executed. While the series may not be for everyone, those who enjoy sports dramas and heartfelt storytelling are sure to find something to love in Mix.
