Mike Pegg, a known expert on metal detecting, takes us on a journey in his new show titled "Metal Detecting Down to Earth Part 1". In the show, Pegg explores the UK's countryside and beaches, searching for hidden treasures. The show starts with a brief introduction of Pegg, his passion for metal detecting, and how he got into it. We get to see a glimpse of his collection of ancient artefacts, which he has accumulated over the years. Pegg then gives us an overview of the tools he uses for metal detecting, and stresses the importance of seeking permission from landowners before digging.

The first location Pegg explores is a farm in the countryside. He takes us through the process of gaining permission from the landowner and setting up his equipment. The show is quite informative as Pegg explains the different signals he receives from his detector and how he differentiates between valuable metals and junk.

Pegg doesn't dig blindly, he excavates only when he's certain of finding something valuable. One of the items he unearths is an old coin, which he later takes to an expert who reveals its historical significance.

After the countryside, Pegg heads to the beach to search for treasures in the sand. He explains how the beach is a high traffic area filled with people who drop items inadvertently. Although his beach search is less fruitful than his countryside one, he manages to find a few interesting items like a lost earring, a ring, and a key.

Taking a break from treasure hunting, Pegg takes us along as he visits an expert in metal detecting conservation. We get to see how valuable artefacts are restored, and how important it is to maintain the integrity of historical objects.

After the visit, Pegg is back to treasure hunting, this time with a group of friends. They head to an area that was once a battlefield during World War 1. The area is now a public park. The team uses their metal detectors to search the ground for any leftover artefacts from the war.

The park search is perhaps the most emotional part of the show, as the team unearths items that once belonged to soldiers who lost their lives during the war. Pegg takes us through the process of verifying the historical significance of each item and even manages to reunite one of the items with the soldier's family member.

The show ends with Pegg reflecting on the day's events, and we get a sense that treasure hunting is not just a hobby for him but something he's truly passionate about. The show ends on a cliffhanger, with the promise of more exciting treasure hunts to come in Part 2.

"Metal Detecting Down to Earth Part 1" is informative, entertaining, and educational. Although the entire concept of metal detecting may not be of interest to everyone, the historical significance of the artefacts found makes this a show worth watching. Pegg's expertise and passion for metal detecting is clearly evident throughout the show, and it's evident why he's a known authority on the subject.
