30. The Pot of Gold (English Subtitled)

A man bought a piece of land from another man. When he moved to the land to carry out excavation works, he found an earthenware jar filled with gold buried in the land. The buyer, a decent and upright person, took the gold to the seller, as he thought he had bought only the land; the gold was not part of the deal. The former owner of the land declined the buyer's offer.

In the earliest narratives involving Solomon in the Qur'an, the story says that Solomon was once in the company of his father David, when two men came to ask David to judge between them. The first of the two men said that he owned a garden of which he took great care the whole year through. But one day when he was absent the other man's sheep had strayed into the garden and devoured the crops.

The story happened at a time when consuming wine was still allowed, before it becomes the worst of the unlawful things. It is the story of a greedy merchant who traded in wine. His desire to earn more in a little time induced him to adulterate wine with seawater. The merchant carried this business on his ship, where a monkey, giving him a good company, curiously observed his conduct.

It was in the second year of the Hijra when the shield of Qutaidah, a renowned Muslim scholar, was stolen during a battle. Without a proof or evidence, a Jew was falsely accused of robbery. In the Qur'an, 'God commands justice and fair dealing.' To declare the Jew's innocence, Allah revealed verses to the Prophet (pbuh) that disclosed the guilt of the thief.
