Little Bride is a 2010 Pakistani romantic drama television series. It depicts a vibrant and engrossing story centered around the trials and tribulations of a young girl, who is forced into marriage with her cousin at an early age. The show opens up in a small village in rural Punjab, where a countryside adolescent girl, Amanat (played by Sarwat Gilani), is living with her grandmother and uncle. Like most of the girls in the village, Amanat dreams of a life where she can study, work and enjoy every bit of freedom she can get. But her dreams come to a screeching halt when her father arrives from the city and informs her that she is to be married off to her cousin, Zahid (played by Fahad Mustafa).
The show is superbly crafted and does a great job of highlighting the problems and issues faced by young girls in the conservative and patriarchal society of Pakistan. It showcases how girls are often seen as a burden on the family and how they are forced into marriage at a young age, depriving them of their fundamental right to education and independence.
Despite Amanat's initial reluctance, she eventually agrees to marry Zahid out of respect for her father and to preserve her family's honor. However, things are far from smooth sailing for this couple, as their marriage faces several obstacles and challenges. The biggest one, by far, is the fact that their personalities are polar opposites, and they struggle to adjust to each other's needs and expectations.
The show does an excellent job of portraying how love develops, even between two people who are initially uncomfortable with each other. Amanat and Zahid's chemistry is one of the highlights of the show, and both the actors have done a phenomenal job of bringing their characters to life.
The story gets further complicated when Amanat's uncle, who she regards as a father figure, falls seriously ill. Amanat is forced to leave her home and husband to take care of her uncle in the city, which further strains their already fragile relationship. The ensuing events are incredibly emotional and heart-wrenching, showing the grit and determination of Amanat in the face of adversity.
The show features a great supporting cast, including famous Pakistani actors like Samina Peerzada, Javed Sheikh and Imran Abbas, who add depth and nuance to the characters they play. The music is equally impressive, with melodious songs that enhance the mood of the show and complement the narrative.
Overall, Little Bride is a beautifully crafted show that portrays the complexities of living in a patriarchal society, where women are expected to conform to societal norms and regulations. The series does justice to its subject matter and presents a compelling story that educates and entertains audiences in equal measures. It is an absolute must-watch for anyone who wants to learn more about the societal issues faced by young girls in Pakistan and beyond.
