Each time that La Liga soccer teams Barcelona and Real Madrid meet in regular-season play, the soccer world takes note, dubbing each match El Clasico. The two teams have traditionally been among the best in professional soccer, and the rivalry between the teams from the two largest Spanish cities is among the most heated in all of professional sports. The matches draw some the largest TV audiences across Europe and the Western Hemisphere. The first El Clasico of the 2016-2017 was the subject of some controversy because, due to blackout laws that prohibit the broadcast of afternoon games, the match did not air live in the UK.
