In mid-1990s Dublin, the Celtic Tiger brought wealth to the city and a new party drug to those who could afford it: cocaine. The amazingly profitable drug reshaped the city’s underworld as fortunes rose and violent turf wars followed, ushering in a new breed of seemingly untouchable drug traffickers. While police struggled to keep up, journalist Veronica Guerin looked to expose the kingpins by following the money and courageously naming names. Despite threats, beatings and a shooting, Guerin refused to back down. Finally, dealers sent one final brazen, tragic message. The city reacted, creating the Criminal Assets Bureau, a group with the power to seize criminal wealth and dismantle major drug empires. Yet, as some traffickers fall, others rise — proving Dublin’s drug story is far from over.
