Watch Chilean Mine Rescue: Race Against Time

The miners enter their second month underground, and the focus on the surface shifts to the seemingly impossible task of bringing all 33 men safely home. The rescue enters a critical phase as the miners prepare to enter a tiny capsule designed to transport them, one by one, through a treacherous borehole to the surface.

Rescuers establish contact with the miners, sparking hope. Supplies make it underground, alleviating the terror of being trapped without food or water. As the world watches, the rescue team races to find a way through solid rock, but every possible solution brings new risks. Then, the ingenuity and determination of this unprecedented rescue effort are threatened by a devastating mechanical failure.

In northern Chile, 33 miners were buried more than half a mile deep in the desert with no way to escape. Across a terrifying first 17 days, the men must overcome impossible conditions to stay alive. As each passing day makes survival seem less likely, desperation sets in until an extraordinary discovery changes everything.
