Boo, Bitch is an American supernatural teen comedy streaming television series created by Erin Ehrlich. It premiered on Netflix in July 2022. The show stars Lana Condor as Erika Vu, a high school senior who has lived a quiet, unnoticed life but longs to break out of her shell and experience high school to the fullest before graduation.
One night, Erika and her best friend Gia (Zoe Colletti) sneak out to attend a party. On the way home, Erika is hit by a car and killed. The next morning, she wakes up and discovers that she is now a ghost. Only Gia can see and hear her in ghost form. Erika realizes this is her chance to finally live life with wild abandon before moving on to the afterlife.
As a ghost, Erika takes on the persona of "Boo Bitch" - a bold, carefree and fun-loving poltergeist. She starts talking to her crush Luke (Mason Versaw) and intervenes in social situations at school. But Erika soon realizes that Luke may not be the romantic match she envisioned.
Meanwhile, Gia struggles to adjust to being the only person who can communicate with Erika. The one-sided conversations in public start to make her look unhinged. Gia has always been socially awkward and anxious, constantly living in Erika's shadow. She starts to wonder if she's better off without her domineering best friend.
Over the course of the season, Erika tries to complete a list of unfinished goals before she passes on, mending broken friendships and righting regrets along the way. She helps other students and teachers at the school in surprising ways. In the process, she learns to appreciate the life she had and the people who cared about her.
Aside from the supernatural premise, Boo, Bitch explores many relatable teen themes - the tribulations of high school popularity and cliques, intense academic pressure, turbulent romantic relationships and bullying. Erika's presence as a ghost gives her new perspective on the pettiness of some social norms. The show ultimately has an uplifting message about being comfortable in your own skin.
Boo, Bitch features snappy dialogue, an energetic pace and a modern soundtrack. The talented young cast has great chemistry. Lana Condor shines in the lead role, capturing Erika's transformation from shy wallflower to audacious poltergeist. Zoe Colletti also stands out as the neurotic Gia struggling to adapt to life without her best friend physically by her side.
Overall, Boo, Bitch is an entertaining supernatural teen dramedy that will appeal to viewers who enjoy coming-of-age stories with a paranormal twist. It blends laughs, scares and heart in an engaging binge-worthy package. The 8 episode first season tells a satisfying story while leaving the door open for more ghostly adventures.
Boo, Bitch is a series that ran for 1 seasons (8 episodes) between July 8, 2022 and on Netflix
