Backlash from 2018 was a professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by WWE. It took place on May 6, 2018, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The event was the fourteenth in the Backlash chronology and featured matches from the SmackDown Live brand.
The first match of the night was between Bayley and Ruby Riott. The two women had been feuding for several weeks leading up to the event, and tensions were high. The match started with Bayley taking control, but Ruby quickly turned the tables. The two women traded near falls, with Bayley eventually hitting her finishing move, the Bayley to Belly, for the win.
Next up was a match between Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins and The Miz. The two had been engaged in a heated feud, with Rollins taking the title from Miz at WrestleMania 34. In a back and forth match, Rollins managed to retain his title after hitting Miz with the Curb Stomp.
The next match was a tag team match between The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows) and The Bar (Cesaro and Sheamus). The Bar had been dominating the tag team division on SmackDown Live for months, and The Good Brothers were looking to make a statement. The match was intense, with both teams getting close to victory multiple times. In the end, The Bar managed to pick up the win after Cesaro hit Anderson with a Neutralizer.
Next was a match between Charlotte Flair and Carmella for the SmackDown Women's Championship. Carmella had won the title from Charlotte on an episode of SmackDown Live and had been gloating ever since. Charlotte was looking to regain her title and prove that she was still the best women's wrestler in WWE. The match was back and forth, but Charlotte managed to come out on top after hitting Carmella with a Natural Selection.
The fifth match of the night was a No Disqualification match between Shinsuke Nakamura and WWE Champion AJ Styles. The two had been feuding for months, with Nakamura constantly attacking Styles with low blows and other illegal moves. The match was brutal, with both men using chairs, kendo sticks, and other weapons to try to gain the upper hand. In the end, neither man could get the win, and the match ended in a double count-out.
The penultimate match of the night was a six-woman tag team match between Absolution (Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville) and Paige and Asuka against Becky Lynch, Naomi, and Charlotte Flair. The two teams had been feuding for weeks, and tensions were high. The match was fast-paced and action-packed, with all six women getting a chance to show off their skills. In the end, Asuka managed to pick up the win for her team by making Mandy Rose tap out.
The final match of the night was a match between Roman Reigns and Samoa Joe. Reigns had been feuding with Joe for months, and the two had engaged in several brutal battles. Joe was looking to prove that he was the dominant force on SmackDown Live, while Reigns was looking to silence his critics and prove that he was still the top dog in WWE. The match was intense, with both men taking each other to the limit. In the end, Reigns managed to hit Joe with a spear and pick up the win.
Overall, Backlash from 2018 was an exciting event that featured some of the top wrestlers in WWE today. With intense rivalries and thrilling matches, it was a must-see for any wrestling fan.
