Allein gegen die Zeit is a German thriller television series produced by Askania Media Filmproduktion GmbH. The show premiered in November 2010 and is comprised of two seasons with a total of 12 episodes. The series follows a group of five teenagers â Mia (Teresa Scholze), Jonas (Timmi Trinks), Benny (Janina Fautz), Oskar (Matthias Klimsa), and Toni (Timon Wloka) â who are on a school trip to a museum when they find themselves locked in and chased by masked men who seem to be after a valuable artifact. Desperate to escape, the teens discover a secret passage that leads them to a laboratory where they stumble upon a time machine. In a moment of panic, they activate the machine and transport themselves back 30 years into the past to the year 1984.
Stranded in the past with no way back, the group must navigate a world that is unfamiliar to them while dealing with the ramifications of their actions in the past that could alter the course of history. As they try to find a way back to their own time, they quickly realize that they are not alone in the past and are being pursued by the same masked men who were after them in the museum.
The show's first season deals with the teenagers' efforts to return to the present and the consequences of their presence in the past. Throughout their adventures, they discover that their actions are not only affecting their own future, but also the lives of those around them. They also uncover a conspiracy involving the time machine and the people who created it.
The second season of Allein gegen die Zeit sees the group return to the present, but with a new set of challenges to face. The time machine has been stolen and the teens must retrieve it before it falls into the wrong hands. Along the way, they encounter new allies and enemies, as well as old friends who have been affected by their actions in the past.
One of the standout features of Allein gegen die Zeit is its fast-paced and suspenseful storytelling. Each episode is filled with action, twists, and turns that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The show also manages to balance the excitement with moments of humor and heart, making it a well-rounded viewing experience.
The performances of the young cast are also a highlight of the series. Despite their age, each actor brings depth and nuance to their characters, making them relatable and sympathetic even when they are making questionable decisions. The chemistry between the group is palpable and adds to the sense of camaraderie and adventure that the show conveys.
Another strength of the series is its production design. The show authentically captures the look and feel of both the present day and the 1980s, with attention to detail that adds to the immersion of the storytelling. The time machine itself is a standout element, with a steampunk-inspired design that is both visually intriguing and a key part of the show's premise.
Overall, Allein gegen die Zeit is an engaging and thrilling television series that is sure to please both young audiences and adults alike. Its fast-paced storytelling, talented young cast, and attention to detail make it a standout in the genre of time travel stories, and one that is worth checking out.
