1600 Penn was a comedy series that aired on NBC from 2012 to 2013. The show starred Josh Gad as Skip, the bumbling eldest son of the President of the United States, Dale Gilchrist (played by Bill Pullman), and his second wife, Emily (played by Jenna Elfman). The show followed the daily lives of the Gilchrist family as they navigate their roles in the White House and the world of politics. The family consisted of Skip, who struggled with everything from holding down a job to finding a love interest; Becca (played by Martha MacIsaac), the rebellious eldest daughter; Xander (played by Benjamin Stockham), the youngest son with a wild imagination; Marigold (played by Amara Miller), the precocious middle child; and Emily's overbearing mother, Joan (played by Andrea Martin). While the President's duties pulled him away frequently, Emily often took charge of the family and her role as the First Lady.

The show took a lighthearted approach to the typical political drama and focused more on the family dynamics than on the political issues of the day. Despite its comedic tone, the show still tackled serious issues such as immigration, gun control, and gay rights.

The relationship between Skip and his father, the President, was a central theme throughout the show. Dale often struggled to connect with his son and was frustrated by his lack of responsibility and direction in life. But despite their differences, the two shared a deep love for each other and often found ways to bond over their shared love of sports.

Becca's storyline revolved around her search for independence and her desire to break out of the confines of her family's high-profile life. She often found herself getting into trouble and pushing the boundaries of what was socially acceptable, much to the chagrin of her mother and the Secret Service.

Xander was the family's wild card, often getting into mischief and using his vivid imagination to create elaborate fantasies. Marigold was the most mature of the siblings and often acted as the mediator in family disputes.

Joan, Emily's mother, was a constant source of comic relief on the show. She was overbearing and often butted heads with Dale, but her love for her family was always at the forefront of her actions.

The show also explored the relationship between Emily and Dale, who were still newlyweds in the White House. They often struggled to balance their responsibilities as President and First Lady with their roles as husband and wife. Emily's job as a political advisor often put her at odds with Dale's more traditional views on policy and politics.

Despite its talented cast and fresh take on political satire, the show received mixed reviews from critics and struggled to find an audience. It was eventually cancelled after just one season.

Overall, 1600 Penn was a light-hearted comedy that poked fun at the political world while still highlighting the importance of family and love. Its talented cast and witty writing made it a fun and enjoyable watch, despite its short-lived run on NBC.

1600 Penn is a series that ran for 12 seasons (112 episodes) between December 17, 2012 and on NBC
