It is the eighth event under the Extreme Rules chronology and took place on May 22, 2016, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The main event of the show was a match between Roman Reigns and AJ Styles for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
The show featured nine matches in total, including two matches on the pre-show. The first match of the pre-show was between Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler in a No Disqualification Match.
