Containing much previously unseen footage from around the world, each hour long documentary tells the story of 20th century flight as seen through the eyes of those who were boys at the time of the Wright brothers memorable first flight - boys who grew into the men who built world aviation. While Donald Douglas rose to prominence as a truly great aircraft designer and builder, James S. McDonnell struggled in the background. With the onset of World War II McDonnell, made his first foothold in aviation, working for Douglas on the DC3. In the ensuing years Douglas became bankrupt and James S. McDonnell saved the company. It became one of the giants of world aviation, later to merge with another US giant: Boeing.
