Transformations is a science fiction horror film directed by Jay Kamen in 1988. It is loosely based on the novel "The Shapechanger" by Whitley Strieber. The movie revolves around the theme of a parasitic alien species that feeds on human flesh, transforming the bodies of its hosts into monstrous and deadly creatures. The movie begins with a spacecraft crash-landing on Earth, bringing a deadly alien parasite to the planet. The alien organism quickly infects the nearest human host, a scientist named Dr. Newman, who then goes on the rampage, killing and eating everyone in his path.
The protagonist of the movie is Waldo Warren, a journalist who comes to the small town where the crash occurred to investigate the incident. He teams up with a local doctor, Dr. Catherine Peake, to uncover the truth behind the strange events that have been occurring in the area.
As they dig deeper, Waldo and Catherine discover that the parasite has been slowly spreading throughout the town, infecting more and more people, transforming them into deadly creatures. They quickly realize that unless they can find a way to stop the parasite, it will spread beyond the town, potentially infecting the entire planet.
The duo begins to work together to find a way to stop the parasite, taking various risks and dangerous journeys to gather information on their strange enemy. This leads them to a remote military base where they discover that the parasite has been weaponized by the government.
The film is gripping, suspenseful, and terrifying, with plenty of action and gore. The transformation scenes are well done, and the special effects are impressive for the time. The score is appropriately eerie and builds tension effectively. The story is interesting enough to keep the audience engaged throughout the movie.
The cast is noteworthy, featuring actors such as Roddy McDowall, Jeffrey Byron, and Lisa Orgolini. Roddy McDowall gives a standout performance as Father Christopher, a priest who is determined to stop the parasite at any cost. His acting is convincing, and he adds depth and authenticity to the character.
Jeffrey Byron and Lisa Orgolini also give strong performances as the main protagonists, Waldo and Catherine. Their chemistry is believable, and they work well together throughout the film. Both actors bring a sense of urgency and determination to their roles, keeping the audience invested in their journey throughout the movie.
Overall, Transformations is a decent horror movie, with plenty of scare factors and a solid storyline. It's not a groundbreaking film, but it's an enjoyable way to spend an evening if you're in the mood for a bit of sci-fi terror.
Transformations is a 2007 documentary with a runtime of 28 minutes.
