The Priests is a South Korean horror movie from 2015 directed by Jae-hyun Jang. The movie stars Yoon-Seok KIM as the elder priest Kim and Dong-Won KANG as the younger priest, Choi. The movie follows the two priests as they are tasked to perform an exorcism on a young girl who is possessed by a demon. The opening scene of the movie shows a young girl Maria, who is in a coma-like state after a car accident, and her family members who are visiting her in the hospital on Christmas Eve. The mood is somber as the family sits around Maria's bed praying for her to recover. Suddenly, Maria's body begins to violently move, and she levitates just as the priests arrive to perform the exorcism.
The elder priest, Kim, is a veteran of exorcisms who has lost his faith after experiencing a traumatic exorcism in the past. On the other hand, the younger priest, Choi, is a novice who is determined to successfully exorcise the demon from Maria's body. Kim tries to convince Choi that exorcisms are dangerous and can even be deadly, but Choi is determined to perform the exorcism.
They take Maria to a remote church in the countryside, where Kim performs the exorcism ritual. As they start the ritual, strange and terrifying events begin to occur around them, and they soon realize that it's not just Maria who is possessed, but something much more sinister is at work.
As they continue with the exorcism, the demon taunts them with their worst fears and traumas. Kim's faith is tested as he confronts the demon and reveals the painful truth about his past. In the meantime, Choi is determined to fight the demon and save Maria, but he soon realizes that he might not be strong enough to defeat such a powerful entity.
The movie builds tension and drama with each passing minute, and the horror elements are carefully crafted to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The cinematography and lighting capture the dark and creepy atmosphere of the church, creating a sense of unease and eeriness throughout the movie.
The performances by KIM and KANG are excellent, and they deliver convincing and emotional performances as the two priests struggling to exorcise the demon. The chemistry between the two actors is palpable, and their relationship as teacher and student adds to the emotional depth of the story.
Overall, The Priests is a compelling and haunting horror movie that is worth watching for anyone who enjoys the genre. It combines elements of religion, horror, and drama to create a thrilling and engrossing movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
The Priests is a 2015 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 49 minutes.
