The desperation of passionate young women in trouble existed even in the hip and optomistic 50s. A local prom queen follows her desires and spends a romantic evening with a charming young beau. She becomes pregnant, and is forced into the dark abode of a back street abortionist. Rather than seeking the consolation of her critical family, she puts herself through the emotional trauma of wrestling with committing one of the ultimate social taboos.
