In 1865, Susan La Flesche Picotte became America's first Native doctor. She returned from medical school to a shattered world, and spent the rest of her life working to help her people become whole again. Like Doctor Susan, modern day medicine women from the Omaha, Lakota and Navajo tribes perform small miracles that the world rarely sees.
