A young poet in 1920s Berlin, Germany, is lonely and pining to find love. He goes to a friend's home to stay with him for a weekend. His friend is Guenther, a gay young man who has a sister, Hilde. Paul begins to fall in love with Hilde while Guenther develops feelings for Paul. The result is a complicated emotional dynamic which is frustrating for all. They decide to throw a wild party filled with sex, drugs and booze, and for after the party, they form an extraordinary plan.
