Kalakaar is a Kannada language movie that was released in 1976. It stars Ramakrishna and Dwarakish in lead roles. The movie was directed by V. Somashekar and produced by R. F. Manik Chand. The movie revolves around the story of a painter named Ravi (Ramakrishna). Ravi is a talented painter who has just graduated from an art college. He is passionate about his work and is determined to succeed in his career as a painter. He moves to Bangalore with his friend (Dwarakish) to try his luck in the city.

Ravi's talent soon catches the eye of a rich businessman named Shetty (K. S. Ashwath). Shetty offers to fund Ravi's exhibitions and art projects in exchange for his paintings. Ravi, who is desperate for money, agrees to the deal.

Meanwhile, Ravi falls in love with a beautiful girl named Sumathi (Kalpana). Sumathi is a singer and Ravi is drawn towards her talent and beauty. However, Sumathi is already engaged to a wealthy man named Ramesh (Ramesh Bhat). Ravi is heartbroken but continues to work hard on his paintings.

Ravi's paintings become popular in Bangalore and soon he is approached by a rich woman named Mrs. Mathur (Manjula). Mrs. Mathur offers to buy all of Ravi's paintings and promises to make him rich and famous. Ravi is tempted by the offer and agrees to sell his paintings to her.

However, Ravi soon realizes that Mrs. Mathur has ulterior motives. She wants Ravi to paint a portrait of her daughter, who had passed away. She believes that Ravi's painting has the power to bring her daughter back to life. Ravi is reluctant to do so but is forced by Mrs. Mathur to take the job.

Ravi becomes obsessed with the portrait and spends all his time working on it. He neglects his health and his relationships. He becomes paranoid and starts experiencing strange visions. Sumathi and his friend try to help him but it is too late. Ravi dies in his studio, surrounded by his paintings.

The movie ends with a message about the importance of pursuing one's passion and not compromising one's artistic integrity for the sake of money or fame.

Overall, Kalakaar is a well-written and well-directed movie that explores the themes of art, love, and obsession. Ramakrishna and Dwarakish deliver strong performances, with Ramakrishna standing out as the tortured artist. The movie also features some beautiful songs and excellent cinematography. It is a must-watch for anyone interested in Kannada cinema.
