Watch In The Gift

In The Gift is a psychological thriller directed by Joel Edgerton. The film centers around a young couple named Simon and Robyn, who move to a new city for Simon's job. However, things take a dark turn when they bump into an old high school acquaintance, Gordo. At first, Gordo seems harmless enough. He's polite, well-spoken, and appears genuinely happy to see Simon again. But as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that there's something sinister lurking behind his friendly demeanor.

Simon, who was something of a bully in high school, begins to feel uncomfortable around Gordo, and the tension between them grows. Robyn, on the other hand, is more sympathetic to Gordo, and even goes so far as to invite him over for dinner. Throughout the film, there are a number of twists and turns, and Edgerton does an excellent job of keeping the audience on their toes. There are moments where it seems like the story is going one way, only to quickly pivot in another direction. This keeps the viewer engaged and invested in what's happening on screen.

One of the most interesting elements of In The Gift is the way it explores the theme of bullying. Simon's mistreatment of Gordo years ago is what sets the events of the movie in motion, and it's clear that he's never atoned for his actions. The film doesn't excuse Gordo's behavior, but it does suggest that past trauma can have serious consequences.

Another key element of the film is the performances. Everyone involved does an excellent job, but in particular, Edgerton's portrayal of Gordo is exceptional. He's able to create a sense of unease and danger without ever becoming cartoonish or over-the-top. Rebecca Hall is also fantastic as Robyn, bringing a groundedness and empathy to the role that makes her character all the more likable.

In terms of visuals, In The Gift is a bit more understated than other thrillers. There aren't any big set pieces or action sequences, but that doesn't mean it's lacking in atmosphere. Edgerton uses lighting and camera angles to create a sense of unease, and there are a number of shots that are genuinely creepy.

Overall, In The Gift is an excellent thriller that's well worth watching. The story is engaging, the performances are fantastic, and the themes are thought-provoking. While there are certainly moments that will make you jump, the film is more interested in creating a sense of tension and unease than in providing cheap scares.
