A gruesome and bloody horror flick, Hotel Inferno follows the story of contract killer Frank Zimosa, who wakes up in a rundown hotel room covered in blood and with no memory of how he got there. Soon enough, he receives a call from his boss telling him his next target is a human trafficking boss hiding in the same hotel. Frank accepts the mission, but as he navigates the corridors of the hotel, he realizes he has stepped into a real-life hell.
Instead of a normal hotel, the building seems like a maze full of traps, demons, and psychotic killers. Frank has no choice but to fight back using his unique set of skills, which include a variety of deadly weapons and a talent for hand-to-hand combat. However, he soon discovers no matter how many people he takes down, they keep coming back to life, so Frank begins to suspect there is something supernatural afoot.
As he battles for his life, Frank encounters other characters who have also been trapped in the hotel, including a former FBI agent who has been investigating the hotel for years, a prostitute who just wanted a better life, and a mad scientist who has been conducting twisted experiments on the guests. Together, they must fight against the countless waves of enemies that keep coming at them, all while trying to unravel the mystery behind what is really going on in the hotel.
Hotel Inferno is a violent and gory film that is not for the faint of heart. The practical effects used to create the various creatures and demons is very impressive, and the fight choreography is well-done. The soundtrack is a mix of adrenaline-pumping beats during the action sequences, and eerie atmospheric music when the characters are exploring the hotel.
The acting performances are by no means award-winning, but they get the job done. Rayner Bourton gives a solid performance as the lead, Frank Zimosa, who is both despicable and likable at the same time. Jessica Carroll as the prostitute, Gloria, brings a bit of humanity and emotionality to the otherwise brutal and inhumane world of the film. Michael Howe as the former FBI agent, Hank, gives a competent portrayal of someone who has been driven a bit mad by his years-long investigation of the hotel.
Overall, Hotel Inferno is not for everyone, as it is filled with graphic violence, bloodshed, and gratuitous nudity. However, for horror fans who enjoy over-the-top gore and action, it is definitely worth a watch. The film's low-budget production values are not noticeable in the final product, as the practical effects and realistic fight scenes make up for any shortcomings in the set design or cinematography. It is a solid horror flick for those who want to be entertained by a fast-paced and suspenseful story.
Hotel Inferno is a 2013 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 17 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 4.6.
