When John equated Jesus of Nazareth with the Logos, he catapulted Jewish Messianism and Paul's concept of the Redeemer into the realm of Greek philosophy. The Greeks had been arguing about the nature of the Logos for over four centuries, and now that debate was brought into Christian theology.
