In Los Angeles, naïve and lonely burger waitress Carol Heath, played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, finds an advertisement in the newspaper that promotes a job opportunity in Tokyo. After meeting with the agents representing the prospective employer, she travels to Japan to work at the White Orchid nightclub, but soon discovers that a forced prostitution ring is run through the club by the Yakuza.
