In 2001 three adventurers began a quest to Sea Kayak the length of the Antarctic Peninsula. Colder than Ice tells the story of this unique expedition. Paddling single person, custom designed sea kayaks, the three expedition members covered a distance of over 800 miles amidst the pristine wilderness of the Antarctic Peninsula. They were challenged by bitter cold, hurricane force winds, dense fog, icebergs, large areas of glaciated coastline and territorial wildlife. The expedition departed from the small sea town of Ushuaia on Tierra del Fuego aboard an expedition yacht bound for Hope Bay on the Northern tip of the peninsula where they launched their three small, fragile kayaks and commenced the journey. Storms, heavy seas, moving pack ice and bitterly cold environment tested their skill and equipment to the limit. Five weeks later they arrived at the Antarctic circle from where they paddled a further 120 miles south. The expedition yacht, S/Y Tooluka met them in late February and they then set sail for the return journey to Ushuaia on Tierra del Fuego at the tip of South America but sailing the across the Drake Passage in the Southern Ocean proved to be even more challenging than their epic paddle. Colder than Ice features superb images of the adventure, the wildlife and the seascape which makes the Antarctic Peninsula so unique.
Colder Than Ice is a documentary with a runtime of 46 minutes.
