Watch Chios: Martyrdom and Resurrection of a People

In 1822 about 60,000 Greek Christians were massacred or enslaved on the island of Chios by militant Islamic Turks of the Ottoman Empire. These atrocities led to intense American and European revulsion. Many leading statesmen, like Daniel Webster, artists, like Delacroix, and poets like Lord Byron and Victor Hugo rose up in support of freedom for Greece, the Birthplace of Democracy.
