221 BC, there has never been a unified China. During the Warring States Period, which preceded the countries unification, seven major states have the territory we roughly know as China, Qin, Chu, Qi, Yan, Han, Wei and Zhao. Of these seven, Chu was the most powerful while Qi was the richest. When the country was eventually unified, it was not done by Chu or Qi but by Qin.
