A farcical adaptation of the Grimm tale, "King Thrushbeard." A haughty, spoiled young lady learns humility and empathy through the love of a clever suitor.
"This American adaptation updates the European fairy tale King Thrushbeard to 1815 and relocates the story to Federalist Virginia. In this edition of the well-produced From the Brothers Grimm series, the wealthy heroine (Veanne Cox of Disney's live-action Cinderella) is a mean-spirited snob who insults the admirers handpicked by her hopeful father, calling one "Bristlelip" in reference to his mustache. This haughtiness comes to an end when she is tricked into marrying this suitor disguised as a peddler. Impoverished and reduced to work as a kitchen maid, she comes to respect her husband, à la Kate in Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. Only this "Kate" learns her humbling lesson in a mere 18 minutes. (Ages 5 and older)" -- Amazon review by Kimberly Heinrichs
