Brave is an animated adventure fantasy movie that was released by Pixar Animation Studios in 2012. The movie was directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and it stars Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, and Craig Ferguson. The movie is set in the Scottish Highlands and follows the story of a young princess named Merida. Merida is a skilled archer who would rather leave her royal duties behind and go out into the woods to practice her marksmanship. She is also fiercely independent and does not want to marry any of the suitors that her parents have chosen for her.
Merida's relationship with her mother, Queen Elinor, is strained. Elinor is very traditional and wants Merida to behave in a manner befitting a princess. She wants Merida to marry one of the suitors so that they can solidify their alliances with other clans in the region. Merida, however, resents the idea of being married off to someone she doesn't love and rebels against her mother's wishes.
One day, Merida discovers a witch's cottage in the woods and asks the witch to cast a spell that will change her fate. The witch agrees and gives Merida a cake to feed to her mother. When Elinor eats the cake, she turns into a bear, and Merida realizes that the spell was a curse rather than a blessing.
Merida and her mother are forced to flee the castle and go out into the wilderness together. They soon discover that they have more in common than they thought and begin to bond over their shared experiences. They encounter various obstacles and challenges, but they manage to work together and overcome them.
The story of Brave is a classic tale of mother-daughter relationships, but it is also a story of personal growth and independence. Merida learns to appreciate her mother's perspective and the sacrifices she made to raise her. Elinor, in turn, learns to appreciate Merida's unique talents and individuality. Together, they are able to break the curse and restore their original forms, and they return to the castle stronger and closer than ever before.
The animation in Brave is top-notch, as is expected from a Pixar movie. The Scottish landscapes are breathtakingly beautiful, and the characters are brought to life with detailed designs and fluid movements. The music is also a highlight of the movie, with a score that incorporates traditional Scottish instruments and melodies.
There are also some comedic moments in the movie, provided mainly by the characters of the castle's lords, who compete with each other in various silly contests. These moments provide a nice break from the more serious themes of the movie.
Overall, Brave is a heartwarming and entertaining movie that is suitable for all ages. It tells a story of personal growth and family bonds that is both relatable and inspiring. The movie has been critically acclaimed and has earned multiple awards, including an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
Brave is a 2007 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
