Be Somebody is a heartfelt movie that follows the story of Jordan Jaye (played by YouTube sensation-turned-actor, Matthew Espinosa) - a teenage pop star who is at the height of his career. Despite his success, Jordan feels a void in his life, craving for a life beyond his superficial existence. He yearns for the simple joys of life, like being able to walk down the street without being hounded by paparazzi or have a real connection with somebody that is not shallow and fleeting.
One day, on a whim, Jordan decides to ditch his high-profile lifestyle and escape to a small town in Texas where he meets a talented and spirited artist named Emily Lowe (played by Sarah Jeffery.) Emily is the opposite of Jordan - she is introverted and grounded, choosing to focus on her craft instead of seeking fame and fortune.
Initially, Emily is not impressed with Jordan's arrogance and celebrity status. In fact, she does not even recognize him. Jordan, having never encountered someone who wasn't aware of his stardom, is intrigued and decides to spend some time with Emily. Over time, Emily puts Jordan to the test, asking him to paint a mural with her for the local art festival. Initially, Jordan resists, but Emily's perseverance and artistic talent help him rediscover his passion for creating without the pressure of pleasing his fans.
Through Emily, Jordan's eyes are opened to life beyond the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. He learns to appreciate the simple things, like spending time with friends and loved ones, and discovers his true calling as an artist.
The movie also highlights the challenges that come with fame, with Jordan struggling to balance his own desires with the expectations of his fans and management team. It also addresses the issue of balancing art with commerce and the pressure celebrities face to maintain a certain image.
The chemistry between Espinosa and Jeffery is palpable, and their performances are realistic and authentic. Their dialogue is well-written, with witty exchanges and deep conversations that explore the complexity of their relationship.
The supporting cast is also noteworthy, with strong performances from Melvin Jackson Jr. as Jordan's best friend and security guard, Brenton Herwat as Emily's supportive brother, Diana C. Salinas as the manager who constantly pushes Jordan, Groover McCants as Emily's gruff and protective father, and Cisco Reyes as Emily's ex-boyfriend who tries to create a rift between Emily and Jordan.
The cinematography is beautiful, with shots of the Texas countryside and the small town that exude charm and warmth. The soundtrack is also a standout, with catchy pop songs that will appeal to Jordan's fans and soulful original music that complements the emotional moments.
Overall, Be Somebody is an enjoyable and heartwarming movie that will appeal to teenagers and young adults. It is a coming-of-age story that explores identity, creativity, and the pursuit of happiness beyond fame and success. It is a movie that will leave you feeling inspired and uplifted, reminding you that sometimes the most fulfilling life is the one that is lived simply and authentically.
