In a chance encounter, Bob Gordon helps save Helen Brewster, the daughter of a local newspaper owner, when her horse runs wild. This act earns him the gratitude of her father, Randall Brewster, who offers Bob a position working for the newspaper. After being hired, though, Bob soon discovers that there are forces working to destroy the paper. Hoping to help Helen and her father to keep their business afloat (and earn Helen's affections), Bob investigates to find out who is behind the sabotage.
