The American Standards tells the tale of a seemingly perfect, upper class family. After experiencing marriage problems, Doc Jennings travels back home to spend time with his family and to celebrate the birthday of his mother, Ann. However, Jennings begin to notice that not all things might be so well. Discovering dark secrets and the possibility of his father living a double life. Tragedy strikes after Ann is involved in a serious accident and is clinging to life as she knew it. After this reversal of fortune, the family slowly comes together to realize what is truly important in their lives.
