And while all sand grains may look alike to the naked eye, they are as unique as the rocks from which they originate. The kids must find and save their beloved dog from the town's mad scientist, using a few clues, some scientific reasoning and plenty of creativity. The mentors they encounter along the way include a Native American sand painter who encourages them to look at the different kinds of sand around them, and a scientist who challenges their stereotypes about mad scientists in white coats.
