One Night in San Diego is a charming romantic comedy that revolves around three pairs of characters who cross paths one fateful night in America's Finest City. The film follows three different stories that take place during the same night, in the same city, but with different perspectives and circumstances. The first story revolves around Tyler (Drew Tarver) and Christen (Isabelle Fuhrman), two college sweethearts who have come to San Diego to attend a concert of their favorite band. Their plan is to have a perfect night in the city before they both separate and move to separate parts of the country for their careers. However, things don't go as planned, and they find themselves separated, lost and alone on the unfamiliar streets of San Diego. They must navigate the city's unfamiliarity, their own individual struggles, and their relationship's uncertainty.
The second story follows Casey (Laura Ashley Samuels), a young woman who is stuck in a dead-end job and a failing relationship with her boyfriend, Jamie (Matt Shively). She decides to channel her frustration into a wild girls night out in the city with her friends. However, things spiral out of control when she ends up kissing someone else other than Jamie and the problems of their relationship come to the forefront. Casey must navigate her own uncertainty and find the courage to choose between comfort and happiness.
Finally, the third story features a single mother, Bea (Jenna Ushkowitz), and her elderly mother (Donna Pieroni), visiting San Diego to celebrate Bea's mother's birthday. However, when her mother gets drunk and disappears, Bea is forced to search for her sobbing mother in the streets of San Diego. Along the way, she runs into a charming stranger, Ron (Eric Nelsen), who helps her in her search. They open up to each other about the struggles of their past relationships but find solace in each other's company.
The film is directed by Penelope Lawson, who previously directed the Netflix hit "The Knight before Christmas". The overall tone of the movie is very lighthearted, with comedic moments interspersed throughout the stories. The cast is excellent, with standout performances coming from Jenna Ushkowitz, who tackles a more dramatic role, and Isabelle Fuhrman, who brings a lot of depth to her character.
